Rhetoric
Rocks

Description

As the group begins to assess and evaluate solutions, focus on reinforcing group cohesion
while also challenging “groupthink.” Groupthink is the tendency toward conformity (and
sometimes mediocrity) that results from a desire to please others and maintain group harmony.
Consensus should be arrived at through careful reasoning and deliberation. For most groups,
the choice of a solution is followed by a sixth stage, implementation. You are more likely to
ind agreement about the inal product if the process that led to it follows the relective thinking
method and is inclusive than if the group’s decision-making is guided by the interests of only
one or two individuals. Using the method as a guide, discussing your expectations as group
members in the beginning and throughout the process.
